I probed further and thumbed through my collection of coffee shop loyalty cards. All stamped up in regular lines of inked ticks, but with nowhere open to be loyal too. This contactless world has paused life, just as my purse has become temporarily obsolete, so have the bank notes, coffee cards, library card and oyster card. It’s as if I have somehow travelled in time along with the rest of the world to a place that is alien, but as we adapt it is increasingly becoming the norm.
We have become Socially Contactless. Better people in all respects, closer together technically, respectful, rebuilding lost communities, and helping the vulnerable. In a world full or paradox my purse symbolises what we have lost but in losing we have gained far, far more.
